- Further Information on Grimoire Valentine -

The Planet's foremost Paleontologist.

Grimoire Valentine discovered the Cetran tablet that spoke of Omega and Chaos and was the one to write the first Omega Reports. He subsequently located the place where Chaos was destined to be born, the crystal grotto, and traveled there with his trusted assisstant, Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. Upon discovering Chaos, they brought it back to the laboratory in Shinra Manor and Lucrecia began her research to prove her thesis on Omega and Chaos.

But when Chaos broke free from its tube and attempted to attack Lucrecia, Grimoire Valentine pushed her out of the way and was hit instead. Grimoire Valentine returned to the Planet soon thereafter, his last words being "Tell my son that I am sorry". Lucrecia saw herself as responsible for his death and grieved much.

Vincent Valentine, the son of Grimoire Valentine, of the Turks was assigned to guard the scientists at the Nibelheim research station not long afterwards. There he met Dr. Lucrecia Crescent, unaware of her connection to his father, and came to care for her. But when Vincent found out that she had know his father, Lucrecia tried to push him away. Vincent, though, never blamed her or held her responsible for his father's death.

When Vincent later protested to Hojo against the Sephiroth Project, he was shot and experimented on by the mad scientist. As he was on the brink of death, Lucrecia used the power of Chaos and the Protomateria to save Grimoire's son. Vincent was then put to sleep in the basement below Shinra Manor. After she had finished the reports on Omega and Chaos, which Grimoire Valentine had begun, she left Shinra Manor and sealed herself away in crystal in the grotto Grimoire had discovered.

The research left by Grimoire Valentine on Chaos and how it was born from the
stagnation of Lifestream was later used by Shinra scientists in Deepground
for a terrible experiment. They took stagnated Lifestream and put it into
unborn children. The only survivor out of the hundreds of failures was
Nero the Sable...

- Interviews -

The following text is taken from an interview with the
                            developers of Dirge of Cerberus:

Regarding Vincent's mantle. It seems that it's the same
mantle that is seen on Grimoire.
What is the origin/concept of this mantle?

Kitase: Oh right. When I was talking to Nomura about the design, I said, “Make
something that people can see on first sight and makes them recognize that they are
father and son”. From then on, it became a discussion about whether if using a mantle
was good idea or not. Grimoire's scarf somehow became Vincent's turban [the hairband],
it's the same thing, but it's worn in a different way. And that's why we think that if we
put something that can connect those two, when people see it, they will go,
“Oh! So this is the father!”

Nomura: When I was first asked to make a conceptual drawing of Grimoire Valentine,
I was also told on the spot that he is the father of Vincent, which made me quite shocked
and surprised *laughs*. However, I am not exactly the person who is responsible for the
making of Grimoire Valentine. Instead, it was Nakaaki, the sub character and mechanic
designer who drew the general appearance of Grimoire; but since [we have different styles]
the look [of the face] was very different from Vincent's, Grimoire's facial detail had to
be redrawn by me. About his clothing, it's basically what Kitase has already said.
